Due to significant growth in both sales and projects in Space, Industrial and Commercial applications, EECL have an opportunity for a passionate and experienced Principal Analogue Hardware Engineer / Team Lead to join the senior management team to help steer further growth within the business and  to lead and expand the Hardware Engineering team, to development novel RF and Microwave electronic projects and products.

With a background in communications, commercial aerospace or space engineering, you will be encouraged to autonomously lead the hardware development for the next generation of RF & Microwave Project and EECL’s own product range. You will act as technical lead and mentor for a multidisciplinary team of hardware engineers working with Electronic, Mechanical, Manufacturing subcontractors in our supply chain to deliver complex mixed-signal, electronic PCB assemblies encompassing a variety of leading-edge RF & Microwave technologies. You will continue to mentor the Engineering Team to grow the collective knowledge and skills base.

EECL, formed in 2016, is a SME based in Kingston-Upon-Thames which Researches, Designs, Develops and Manufactures RF/Microwave analogue electronic systems for Space, Industrial and Commercial applications. We have an in-house IOS-Class 7 Clean Room, IOS-Class 8 Assembly and fully equipped Test Lab. We have carried out designs for and built full flight models for LEO, Lunar Missions. Technical Responsibilities:

  • Your primary role will be to act as technical lead designer and mentor of the hardware team developing EECL Product and Projects, to plan, design, verify, commission and productise board-level designs and sub-assemblies.
  • To take ownership of the hardware development of complex mixed-signal RF, power and embedded based designs from requirements validation, architectural and subsystem design from hardware specifications, schematics, PCB layout, commissioning, integration and verification.
  • Support the wider technical deliverables required for product development, such as lifecycle management, peer reviews, test equipment procurement and lab testing.
  • Collaborate with members of the EECL team outside Engineering to ensure effective support of the development programmes.
  • Organise and manage internal hardware design reviews and where appropriate with customer engineering teams to capture requirements to ensure right first-time designs.
  • Provide technical leadership to the team and mentoring to “bring on” young graduate team members in areas of specialist expertise.
  • Support product design, validation through to production.
  • Ensure the hardware is designed to meet EMC and regulatory approvals and the requirements for volume manufacturing (DFT/DFM) in line with industry best practise.

Qualifications & Skills:

Essential:

  • As a minimum a good First or Upper 2nd Class degree (BEng/MEng) in Electronic/Electrical Engineering from a leading University. PhD preferred.
  • At least 12 years’ experience in a relevant industry delivering technically complex products in the data communications, aerospace or automotive industry. At least 8 years in a design role and 4 years in a lead position with line management experience.
  • A good understanding of the complete product development process preferably for high-reliability environments, namely aerospace products.
  • Strong background in high frequency RF mixed signal, from concept, specification and design through to systems test, integration & manufacture.
  • Experienced in the layout of complex high-speed multi-layer PCBs, with a sound knowledge of high-speed design techniques.
  • Familiar with schematic capture tools such as Altium Designer (essential) and industry standard tools for simulations (e.g. Solidworks, MATLAB).
  • Software – C++, Embedded C
  • A strong leader, excellent communicator, mentor, creative with good problem-solving abilities. Able to take ownership of problems and finding solutions.
  • Passionate, flexible can-do attitude. Able to adapt to a fast-moving environment.
